Waller Financial Planning Group Celebrates Commitment to Philanthropy at Annual Odysseus Awards Ceremony
Firm Honors 2008 Recipients Gay and Gary Grube
Waller Financial Planning Group celebrated and honored the philanthropic commitment of their clientele at the 2008 Odysseus Awards Ceremony Tuesday, May 20, at the Columbus Museum of Art. The annual event highlights the accomplishments in philanthropy of the firm’s clients. Collectively, Waller Financial clients have assigned over $60 million in charitable gifts to date.
The 2008 ceremony marked the eighth year the firm had presented awards to individuals who have committed to a lifetime in philanthropy. Larry Waller, the founder & CEO of Waller Financial Planning Group, presented the 2008 Odysseus Award to Gay and Gary Grube.
Gay and Gary Grube have committed to improving the lives of those in the community throughout their own lifetimes. Gary Grube’s parents started and ran the family-owned Bridgeview Golf Course located in east Columbus. Gary learned from a young age that golf could serve as more than a game, but as a learning tool to build discipline, self-respect, and patience. Gay and Gary met at Mifflin High School in the 9th grade and were married in 1957. Gay and Gary assumed ownership of the course upon Gary’s parents’ retirement and for four decades the couple leveraged the course to assist youths in building life skills through the game of golf.
When Gay and Gary reached their own age of retirement, they sought to continue the legacy of utilizing Bridgeview as an educational environment for youth, rather than simply selling the property to a real estate developer. The Grubes, along with other family members who owned shares in the course, transferred ownership of Bridgeview to Columbus State Community College.
The transfer of Bridgeview Golf Course to Columbus State Community College allowed the institution to build a top-notch golf management program for its students. The course also provided the college income to support its education programs.
Gay and Gary Grube continue to actively support First Tee, an organization that builds life skills for children of all backgrounds through the game of golf. First Tee holds several events throughout the year at Bridgeview to support its operation.
Waller Financial Planning Group is honored to be a part of building legacies and impacting communities through contributions of its clients like Gay and Gary Grube. The firm believes that all members of the community benefit through efforts in philanthropy. The firm has furthered this commitment by beginning an employee supported donor advised fund through the Columbus Foundation to help meet the needs of the community.
